Safety, Injury & Violence Prevention
Bullying and Harassment is a problem with multiple dimensions that needs to be addressed through school policy, school climate, curriculum, counseling and referral services, intervention through the school nurse’s office and a variety of other approaches. CHL offers training in bullying, harassment and interpersonal skills and works with school staff to identify an action plan to promote pro-social behavior. CHL uses a comprehensive model for creating environments at schools that are safe and healthy for all students.

Safe Routes to School
Safe Routes to School encourages students to walk, ride bicycles, or use other forms of active transportation to and from school. Active transportation improves health, increases the livability of a community, and helps to protect the environment. The Safe Routes to School Policy Workbook is designed to help school board members, administrators, families of students, and community members create and implement policies that support active transportation and Safe Routes to School. WalkSmart-BikeSmart Vermont! Curriculum
This curriculum contains essential concepts and skills related to pedestrian and bicycle safety. Its goal is to promote healthy habits, prevent injuries and increase the number of children walking and biking safely.
The curriculum is divided into two sections: a pedestrian safety program for K-2 students and a bicycle safety program for students in grades 2-6. The lessons are designed to keep children actively engaged, utilize their own experience and encourage safe and healthy choices.
Promoting Personal Health and Safety Through the Prevention of Injury and Violence
This online course is offered as one of a series of courses by the Vermont Higher Education Collaborative toward health education endorsement. Students taking the course for credit and successfully complete the course will receive 2 graduate credits through Union Institute and University.
