Suicide Prevention in the BIPOC Community

March 13, 2024 from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

There is no cost to attend this training.

About this training:

This training is designed to provide learners with basic information about the relationship between racial identity and suicide. More specifically, the goal is to provide learners with insight into how race and racism impact mental health on structural, institutional, communal, and individual levels for people who are racially subjugated (i.e. Black, Indigenous and People of Color, or BIPOC). We will discuss barriers to recognition and treatment as well as remedies and actions that practitioners and mental health advocates can take to reduce disparities in BIPOC populations, including a local lens on prevalence, barriers, and resources.

Objectives:

  • Articulate the prevalence and presentation of suicidal ideation and suicide in Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities
  • Describe structural, systemic, communal, and individual factors that impact suicidal ideation and suicide for BIPOC
  • Offer 5 actions practitioners and advocates can take to improve outcomes for BIPOC experiencing suicidal ideation or attempt

About the trainer:

Tabitha Moore (she/her)

Tabitha Moore (she/they) is the owner and principal consultant of Intentional Evolution Consulting, LLC. She has been consulting on the topics of identity based equity and racial justice for 25 years. Child Welfare

This brings a level of empathy and cross-systems understanding to her work that few consultants possess. She is nearing completion of her Ph.D. in Transformative Social Change at Saybrook University. Her research focuses on the development of anti-racist approaches to police procedures when interacting with people who experience identity-based harm.
